LOOC LAUNCHES ALS MOBILE LIBRARY |
| |
The dream of somehow changing the lives and making learning more accessible to the less fortunate constituents of the city was made into reality last March 18, 2011. . Looc ALS Mobile Library was launched at Amador Dagudag Memorial Elementary School. Initially, Barangay Looc provided five pushcarts and two bicycles with sidecars. These vehicles were filled with reading materials like books and magazines and placed in the conspicuous place where people can read and learn during their free time or while waiting for passengers on board. |

This is another remarkable initiative of the Department of Education through the Bureau of Alternative Learning System and the city government in response to the goal of Education for All (EFA). Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, the Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Division of Dumaguete City, expressed his support and encouraged everybody to take part in the project and make a difference in the lives of the people in the community. He said that it is a humbling experience for the person pushing the carts from one place to another so that these materials will be accessible to the people. Afterall, helping other people is a noble endeavor.
Mrs. Gima Cornelia, the city librarian and the representative of the city mayor during the activity, presented ways of how the city can be of help to the project and promised to give additional reading materials and other references to be placed in the library. |

The Barangay Council of Looc, headed by the barangay captain, Hon. Angelita C. Ragay, is grateful to have the first mobile library launched in the barangay and promised to give her wholehearted support in order for this project to succeed. They are also placing boxes with a slogan printed “ PAG-ASANG DOOR TO DOOR” in the designated areas of the city for the donors to place their old books, magazines, and other reading materials for the mobile library.
This is a tough job for the prime mover of the project but a challenge to all of us to cooperate and make miracles happen.
